The gavel of University of Kelaniya conducts their weekly educational meetings, every Friday at 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. Additionally as special meetings, joint meetings are arranged in collaboration with gavel clubs of other universities.
This is usually held as a very friendly gathering to get to know each other from both universities and to interact with each other. The organization of a joint meeting is the same as that of a regular educational meeting: First is the round robin session. Gaveliers from both the universities participate as usual. Then in line is the table topic session that is conducted by the Table Topic Master of the meeting. Everyone in the joint meeting is encouraged to participate in the table topic session regardless of which university they are from. When appointing the role players of a joint meeting, gaveliers from both universities would be assigned for the role players; Grammarian, Ah-counter, Timer…etc. Thus, on a special note there will be two table topic evaluators from each gavel club, especially two gaveliers who are experienced in public speaking.
Therefore, in a joint meeting gaveliers from both the gavel clubs are encouraged to improve their public speaking skills by delivering their speeches in a friendly and stress-free atmosphere.
The Gavel Club of University of Kelaniya has gained much reputation by becoming the first ever Gavel Club in South Asia. The main intention of the Gavel Club is to help its members to improve their communication, language and leadership skills.
