UOK Gavel Club is all about fun and fellowship. In order to nourish these fellowships, we organize special themed meetings. Themed meetings are organized to celebrate special festivals such as Avurudu, Christmas, Halloween, and special days such as Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day.
Our members can dress up in different costumes for themed meetings. We encourage our members to be creative and spread laughter in these meetings. Members can come up with various ideas to make the meeting interactive and enjoyable. For example, in our recent Mother’s Day themed meeting the role players of the meeting shared photos of special moments with their mothers.
In our recent Christmas themed meeting, Gaveliers dressed up as Santa Claus and reindeers and shared their best memories of Christmas from their childhood. In the Halloween themed meeting our members clad in scary costumes and went on a trick-or treat. “Gavel ekka Avurudu” is organized to celebrate the Avurudu festival, play Avurudu games and enjoy traditional treats.
Gaveliers can gain experience in organizing these fun events. Father’s Day themed meeting is all about expressing our sincere gratitude to our real- life superhero. Valentine’s Day themed meeting is about expressing love and warmth to our dear and near ones. In a themed meeting, the round robin and the table topics sessions are in line with the theme of the meeting.
Gaveliers are encouraged to come up different stories related to the theme. Themed meetings highlight the cultural diversity within our club as well as differences in experiences and ideas between us. Through themed meetings, Gaveliers will master the art of public speaking and have a great time.
The Gavel Club of University of Kelaniya has gained much reputation by becoming the first ever Gavel Club in South Asia. The main intention of the Gavel Club is to help its members to improve their communication, language and leadership skills.
